Its kind of funny theres a website for phone etiquette, but hey like in class, our list of jobs that arent real but should be, this was probably one of them at one time. The rules make sense though. And they are good because alot of them are really annoying when people do them. I cant stand it when people talk on the phone really loud in public so everyone hears what they are saying, its obnoxisious. And discussing personal topics just isnt smart. If I txted while I was talking to my parents, it would not be good. But some of these rules are broken alot, like talking while driving, the 10 foot rule, and phone tag. My mom makes alot of buisness calls and sometimes she has to take them where ever we are and if that means in the middle of a group she just takes the call, but she usually tries to go somewhere away from the people. And phone tag cant be helped because of peoples schedules. These seem to be more for the younger generation who arent working and phones are just a luxury and entertainment. Texting is really slang and I dont know many people who use please and thank you. Thank you is used more than please. “Always take calls from the person paying the bill.” Which for most kids is our parents…its the funniest but very true.

Cell phones and radiation… I dont know how true that is and the report on Monile Phone Health Issues says there hasnt been problems found just results that have “raised questions that require furthur research” Which means theres nothing wrong at all or its killing us… not really but it could possibly be a huge problem. I doubt it though. Motorola is on most of the list for highest radiation and Samsung is on most of the lowest radiation, that could lead to alot of competition if radiation is proved to be a problem. The rules for preventing radiation are broken alot. Carry your phone at least one inch from you body: alot of people carry them in their pockets or hands. Dont sleep with it by your bed: yeah that one is broken. But its suggested to text instead of calling which alot of younger people do anyway, but it could be used in an argument for someone to get texting and it seems older generations look down on texting but this is saying its good or better.

Analysis: irrevocable- ir-not, re-again, vocable-(re)- to call=not to call again or “beyond recall”

Evaluation: Androids would make simple tasks easier and cut down on personal and time. Some of the more unpleasant jobs could be taken care of but droids are less traceable making breaking into places and theft easier.

Intuition: I would speak to the inanimate sky or ocean. Or I would converse with a journal or paper because you can pour out everything on them.

Emotion: The emotions associated with urbane behavior would be intelligent and sophisticated(since thats what it means). There are to different sides to the behavior, the graceful knowledgable side, and the side that is smart and knows it so comes off snobby and stuck up.

Aesthetics: I would create an eccentric art piece with film items such as a camera, slate, lights, and they would be covered in stuff that I’ve written. It would tell a story in a way.

Technology is going to be even bigger in our lives than it is now in the near future. Everything is changing so quickly that a couple year difference is huge in childhood experience. It seems like everything is speeding up or at least getting more chaotic. 16-18yr olds can multitask with 7 things on a regular basis. Although this may not be a bad thing it questions if concentration levels have diminished. But is it possible that all this technology and multi tasking is expanding the brain. An FPS topic was sensory overload and I can definetly see that becoming a problem very soon. People cant get caught up in a life thats not real, thats all simulated. Because no matter what you do in the digital world or how much you accomplish, its not real and people still have to take care of themselfs. If everything in life is compacted into a computer or phone I think mankind will lose a quality that will take away our humanity.

Things such as the Kindle are examples. Its a cool idea but to me books have to be held and the pages have to be turned. Reading it off of a white screen is convient but not as real. Theres something about holding a story in your hands that I cant let go. Kindles wil expand reading to more people and will encourage it since younger generations are so involved in technology so they are good in that way.

There is something disturbing when a toddler says a robot is their pet and truly believes that. This would be losing humans to machines and virtual lives. And it was a toddler! Something about the virtual world and computers is cold to me. Because they arent really real and when people get lost in them they become colder. Technology alllows you to say things you wouldnt normally to a persons face, it cuts down compassion.

This is going to sound really crazy and WAY out there, but I could see something similar to terminator happening. The world being taken over by computers. If everything we are is put into a computer and computers and robots are advanced to have decision making qualities, what would we do if they turned on us and shut us out of the virtual world. Kids are defestated to have their phones taken away, so what happens when their life is shut down?

7.2 BILLION dollars toward high-speed internet expansion… I can see why internet is becoming increasingly neccessary but I’m not sure it should be a federal government responsibility, especially when we have such other big issues such as immigration reform, health care, and the economic downfall . 7.2 billion dollars could fly the space shuttle for two years and NASA employs 25000 people. There are more important issues that could use this amount of money than internet for everyone. The government may be looking at internet as a utility such as electricity and water but the reasons for not having the internet are mostly cost issues, which could be solved by a stable economy, “fear” of computers(which I think may be being politized) and people dont see it as neccessary. If people dont want it they shouldnt be forced to have and the money shouldnt spend the money for an unused utility. Today on Cinco de Mayo, President Obama announced immigration reform was going to be pushed this year if not completed(oppisite to last weeks statement that the congress had no appetite for such a contreversial issue) and 7.2 billion dollars would really help with that and its a bigger issue that should take up more time and money than giving everyone internet.

1. What are the negative effects of the lack of high speed internet on the Fields household? What would the family have to give up to get access? Is the tradeoff worth it to them?

The lack of high speed internet creates difficulty for the Field kids keeping up with their school work and provides difficulty for Kelli Fields to do her job by keeping the school website updating because she cant change anything from home. Because of econimic issues the family would have to give up TV, which Kelli does not want to give up. But with the internet the family would be able to watch TV and accomplish school/work. It would be a good trade because the TV is not the most important(doing your job and education are essential) and they could still enjoy tv entertainment.

2. Why are some households “unwired” even though they live in places that are reached by broadband cables?

A big factor is the cost, 36% cant afford it. Some people are “afraid” of computers or the internet mostly due to lack of understanding and others dont see the need or advantages of having internet. The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act can help the ones who dont need the money and the ones who fear computers but the ones who dont want it shouldnt be forced to have internet.

Synthesis: An egocentric, or self centered, person could be described as a grumpy and selfish.

Divergence: The American dream and principles of freedom of speech and religion should be kept sacrosanct, but new laws such as healthcare and immigration should not be set in stone and should be examined to ensure its for the best of the country, so that as society changes so can the laws.

Analysis: Egocentric is made up of “ego” and “centric”, mean “I” and “center” creating ” self centered”. Androgynous is combined of “andro” or man and “gyn” or woman creating “masculine and feminine”.

Evaluation: Student behavior should be more circumscribed but learning desicions should be moderated because teachers do know the essentials of what we need to know to grow up, but students need to be able to decide what they want to take and what to focus on. mistakes should be allowed because if a student is coddled and never allowed to get anything wrong, they will fail in life because you never win everything.

Intuition: If you received diatribe from a stranger, you invaded their space or commented rudely. The breech of conduct could be anything invading personal space, privacy, or insulting them.

Emotion: An egocentric person would annoy me probably alot, a loquacious person would be easy to listen to but slightly annoying if they never stopped talking and I would stay away from a pugnacious person because I dont like to fight or be physical.

Aesthetics: not all great music is euphonic because some is written cacophonous on purpose with just the right clashing sounds that is understandable and appreicated by the mind.

Analysis: Intractable is made of -in which is “not” and -tractable which is from a longer latin word meaning “being handled” so altogether “not being handled” or stubborn, being left alone and not changed or influenced easily.

Evaluation: Giving an unwillingly uncle a sinecure job is not a wrong because just because he is family if he doesnt want to work he wont do the job right and there are others qualified and willingly. but its not necessarily a kindness either because it is a family buisness and he has rights to it, but at least the uncle wasnt kicked out or something.

Intuition: People cheat ingenuous people of their money by talking smartly and playing on the persons lack of knowledge and experience. By tricking the guy into believing whatever they tell him they can do.

Emotion: A gregarious person would be talkative and social all the time, so their friends would be in a good mood alot but also could become partially annoyed by the continued happy attitude and bubblyness.

Aesthetics: With diaphanous blue fabric I could make the sky look like it covered the mountain side or create and underwater world because you would be able to see through it. Shadows and irregular or shady shapes would be used alot.
